Introduction
Phakisa Holdings is seeking a skilled and reliable Warehouse Picker/MHE Operator to join our team in Paarl. This position plays a key role in managing finished goods within a chemical warehouse environment, focusing on the efficient receipt, storage, picking, packing, and shipment of products, while operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safely and effectively.
Purpose of the Role
The main objective of this role is to ensure the timely and accurate handling of stock, including receiving, put-away, picking, packing, and loading. It is essential to maintain inventory accuracy and strictly follow health, safety, and regulatory compliance protocols for handling chemical materials.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Put-Away
- Receive and verify incoming shipments against packing slips and production orders.
- Inspect deliveries for damage or discrepancies and report concerns to the warehouse specialist.
- Unload products using MHE safely and efficiently.
- Allocate inventory to designated bins while adhering to chemical compatibility and segregation rules.
- Accurately record transactions in SAP/WMS systems.
Order Picking & Packing
- Pick stock accurately according to order pick lists.
- Pack and label products securely, with appropriate hazard markings and handling instructions.
- Prepare goods for dispatch, including palletizing and staging.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
MHE Operation
- Operate forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and other MHE safely.
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections on all equipment.
- Immediately report any faults or required maintenance.
- Comply with safety protocols to avoid incidents or damage.
Inventory Management
- Participate in stock control tasks such as cycle counts and inventory checks.
- Apply FEFO/FIFO principles to prevent expiry-related losses.
- Log all inventory movements accurately in WMS.
- Notify supervisors of any discrepancies or product damage.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all company policies and legal regulations regarding chemical storage and transport.
- Support the Dangerous Goods programme for safe handling and movement.
- Attend safety training and meetings.
- Ensure proper lifting techniques and spill containment procedures are followed.
- Be familiar with and adhere to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all materials handled.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ warehouse experience, preferably in the chemical industry.
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Valid forklift and reach truck licenses.
- Basic numeracy skills for stock verification.
- High attention to detail and organizational accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Physically fit to lift items, stand for long periods, and operate machinery.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy; WMS experience advantageous.
- Proficiency in English required; Afrikaans or local languages an advantage.
- Team-oriented, results-driven, and adaptable to change.
- Capable of working in a cross-functional, global team structure.
