General Worker at Transport Education Training

Key Responsibilities

1. Stakeholder Support

  • Assist walk-in clients by providing relevant information and directing them to appropriate departments
  • Communicate Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) activity dates to stakeholders
  • Collect meeting schedules and coordinate meeting logistics

2. Switchboard Operation

  • Answer incoming phone calls professionally
  • Redirect calls to the correct departments
  • Take and relay accurate messages

3. Front Desk and Reception Management

  • Receive and log documents on behalf of the Chamber
  • Notify the Chamber to collect submitted documents
  • Report any telephone faults
  • Manage the supply of drinking water

4. Office Housekeeping

  • Ensure a clean and tidy office environment at all times
  • Dust, polish furniture, and clean all floors daily
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and restrooms
  • Clean the refrigerator weekly and empty waste bins daily

5. Meeting Room Preparation

  • Schedule and prepare boardrooms and training rooms
  • Provide refreshments, cutlery, and ensure sufficient water and glassware
  • Clean and reset venues before and after meetings

6. Intern Mentorship

  • Train interns on switchboard operation
  • Encourage teamwork and active contribution

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12) required
  • A certificate in administration or secretarial studies is advantageous
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a receptionist or switchboard operator
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in housekeeping or cleaning

Knowledge & Skills

  • Customer service and switchboard operations
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Strong telephone etiquette and interpersonal communication (written & verbal)
  • Excellent time management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
