About the Role
The General Assistant position supports the Facilities Unit at the Independent Power Producer Office (IPPO). The role is key to maintaining a clean, functional, and safe working environment by providing general support services with a strong focus on quality and customer service.
Established in 2010, the IPPO is hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and operates under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and National Treasury. The IPPO’s mission is to secure new energy generation capacity through Independent Power Producers (IPPs), while providing energy procurement, contract management, and advisory services to government.

Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & General Support
- Set up workstations as per departmental requests.
- Ensure that office equipment and furnishings are clean, functional, and well-maintained.
- Conduct daily inspections of facilities, addressing minor issues and reporting major faults.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to log and resolve maintenance problems promptly.
- Collect and shred paper documents under supervision, ensuring secure disposal.
- Assist with Bid Window preparations including room setup, supply distribution, and support during receiving.
2. Internal Deliveries and Office Logistics
- Collect and verify stationery deliveries, ensuring accurate distribution.
- Support office furniture moves: disconnect equipment safely and relocate items as required.
- Arrange and install furniture and accessories in designated areas.
3. Asset and Key Management
- Tag and record office assets in the inventory system.
- Update asset locations and ensure accurate tracking.
- Manage office keys: log issuance and return, confirm key compatibility with doors.
4. Team Collaboration & Self-Management

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Education:
- Matric or equivalent qualification
Experience:
- 4–5 years of general maintenance experience (e.g., light repairs, replacing fixtures)
- 2–3 years in a customer support role, preferably serving senior executives
- 2–3 years of basic administrative experience (e.g., tracking inventory in spreadsheets)
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Physically fit and able-bodied to handle manual tasks
