About the Role:

The Independent Power Producer Office (IPPO) is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused General Assistant to support day-to-day facilities operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring that the IPPO offices are well-maintained and functionally efficient, upholding a clean, safe, and professional work environment.

The IPPO was established in 2010 to support South Africa’s energy needs by enabling the procurement of new power generation capacity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the IPPO operates under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and National Treasury. Its key functions include procurement management, contract monitoring, and advisory services.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Facilities Maintenance & Support

  • Set up workstations based on departmental requests
  • Inspect and maintain office equipment, furniture, and fittings in line with housekeeping standards
  • Conduct daily checks of all IPPO buildings and address or report maintenance issues
  • Log and follow up on maintenance faults with the relevant departments
  • Handle confidential document disposal in coordination with Security staff
  • Assist with Bid Window preparations (room setup, stocking supplies, receiving activities)

2. Internal Distribution of Supplies

  • Collect and verify stationery orders and deliver them to appropriate departments
  • Assist in moving and setting up furniture and office equipment safely
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards during relocation and setup

3. Asset and Key Management

  • Tag new assets and update records with barcoded stickers
  • Maintain an accurate asset database with location tracking
  • Assist staff with key issuance and returns, ensuring secure key management

4. Teamwork and Self-Management

  • Present a professional image in appearance and work conduct
  • Meet deadlines and communicate proactively when challenges arise
  • Actively seek feedback and continuously improve skills and knowledge
  • Understand and apply organizational policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate initiative and attention to quality and detail

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Matric or equivalent

Experience:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in customer service, particularly supporting senior executives
  • 4–5 years’ proven experience in general maintenance tasks (e.g., fixing furniture, changing bulbs, basic plumbing)
  • 2–3 years’ experience with administrative duties and maintaining simple stock records
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
