Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and customer-focused General Assistant to join our retail team. In this role, you will be essential in ensuring a welcoming and efficient shopping experience for our customers. Your duties will include assisting customers, maintaining store cleanliness and organization, handling transactions, and supporting daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers warmly, assist with inquiries, and provide product information
- Guide customers on product usage and help with purchasing decisions
- Promote store specials and encourage customer engagement with current promotions
- Process cash and card payments accurately, issue receipts, handle exchanges and refunds
- Receive and unpack deliveries, organize stock, and monitor inventory levels
- Replenish shelves and fridges efficiently to keep stock levels optimal
- Dispose of store and storeroom waste properly and maintain general cleanliness
- Support stock take processes and inventory checks
- Ensure all safety, security, and environmental procedures are followed
- Clean designated areas such as the storeroom and kitchen
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Previous experience in roles such as General Assistant, General Worker, or General Clerk
- Strong communication skills in English
- Clear criminal record
- Must reside within 25 km of the job location
Preferred but Not Mandatory
- South African citizenship
- Prior experience using a cash register or Point-of-Sale (POS) system
- Experience in a customer-facing environment
- Familiarity with stock taking and shelf management
- Attention to detail with pricing and stock labeling
