A vacancy currently exists in the Packaged Gases Department at our Kempton Park facility, reporting to the Distribution Supervisor. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who meet the requirements of this role.

Role Overview and Key Responsibilities:
The Workshop Assistant will play a key role in ensuring legal compliance with Dangerous Goods transportation legislation and maintaining the cylinder fleet in a roadworthy condition at all times.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct regular physical inspections of fleet vehicles to ensure they are safe, functional, and roadworthy
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance activities, including licence renewals, Certificates of Fitness (COF), and fire permit compliance
  • Ensure vehicles meet all regulatory requirements for transporting dangerous goods, including correct placarding
  • Maintain a clean, organized workshop and vehicle area
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date service and maintenance records for all fleet vehicles
  • Adhere to safety and quality protocols to ensure efficient and compliant operations
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Valid, unendorsed Code EC driver’s license with PrDP (Public Driver’s Permit – Dangerous Goods)
  • Dangerous Goods Certificate
  • 3–5 years’ experience operating heavy-duty vehicles, with knowledge of dangerous goods transportation
  • Mechanical aptitude is an advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
