Position: Driver
Location: Gauteng
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Driver responsible for the timely, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of goods and passengers. The successful candidate will also play a vital role in maintaining safety standards in line with organisational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Trip Procedures
- Conduct vehicle checks using the Vehicle Inspection Checklist and report any issues to the Dispatch Controller (or relevant Inventory staff in specific regions).
- Receive and sign off the Trip Instruction Sheet.
- Collect and wear identification tags at all times.
- Securely load goods, particularly blood products, ensuring proper handling.
- Leave a copy of the delivery sheet with the Dispatch Controller.
- Accurately complete trip sheets, including odometer readings, and maintain the vehicle log book.
- Ensure sufficient fuel levels before departure and verify odometer readings on fuel slips.
2. Goods Transportation
- Follow delivery schedules and trip sheet instructions precisely.
- Comply with SANBS regulations and the National Road Traffic Act.
- Deliver goods to specified locations and obtain recipient signatures on trip and delivery sheets.
- Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with recipients.
- Uphold the SANBS image throughout all interactions.
- Return completed documents and keys to the Dispatch Controller after each trip.
- No unauthorised goods or route changes without prior approval.
- Log all completed trips accurately.
3. Passenger Transportation (Excludes Technical Drivers in Zones)
- Confirm trip details with the Dispatch Controller and collect the required Transport Request Form.
- Collect parking fees (if required) for international passenger pickups.
- Display a SANBS welcome sign at the airport and greet passengers professionally.
- Ensure passengers are safely escorted to their destination; assist those unfamiliar with the venue.
- Obtain completed Customer Service Assessment Forms from passengers.
- Only authorised passengers may be transported.
- Record trip details in the Log Book after each journey.
4. Administrative and Support Duties
- Perform additional tasks as required.
- Answer transport department calls professionally and relay messages to the Dispatch Controller.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
- Report any accidents or incidents immediately to both the Dispatch Controller and local authorities, and obtain a case number.
Additional Duties for Technical Drivers in Zones Only:
- Assist with clinic preparation in the absence of a General Assistant.
- Unpack hampers from blood banks when required.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Minimum: Grade 9 with a valid C1 driver’s license and valid PDP
- Ideal: Grade 12 and an Advanced Driving Course
Experience:
- At least 3 years of professional driving experience
- Fluency in English is essential
