Driver – Job Opportunity
Introduction
An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Driver responsible for the timely, safe, and cost-effective transport of goods and passengers. The ideal candidate will be reliable, professional, and committed to upholding organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Trip Inspections and Preparation
- Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections using the official checklist and report any issues to the Dispatch Controller (or relevant Inventory Head/Supervisor depending on the region).
- Collect and acknowledge receipt of the Trip Instruction Sheet.
- Always wear the issued name tag while on duty.
- Ensure proper handling and secure loading of blood products as per delivery documentation.
- Leave a copy of the delivery note with the Dispatch Controller.
- Complete Trip Sheet with accurate odometer readings and update the vehicle logbook.
- Check fuel levels and refuel if necessary, ensuring the fuel slip odometer reading is correct.
2. Goods Transportation
- Complete the Trip Sheet accurately.
- Follow scheduled delivery times and instructions, reporting any deviations and taking corrective actions as advised.
- Drive in compliance with SANBS regulations and the National Road Traffic Act.
- Ensure proper delivery and receipt acknowledgment at destinations.
- Maintain professionalism and represent SANBS positively during all interactions.
- Return completed trip documentation and goods to the Dispatch Controller after deliveries.
- Conduct a post-trip vehicle inspection with the Dispatch Controller.
- No unauthorized passengers or goods are permitted without prior approval.
3. Passenger Transport (Excludes Technical Drivers in Zones)
- Confirm passenger transport details with the Dispatch Controller and collect the relevant transport request form.
- Collect petty cash for airport parking if picking up international passengers.
- Display SANBS welcome signage and greet passengers courteously.
- Ensure passengers reach their destination or assist them to reception as needed.
- Request completion of the Customer Service Assessment Form.
- Update the vehicle logbook after each trip.
4. Administrative and Support Tasks
- Perform general duties as needed, including answering transport department calls and relaying messages.
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
- Report any incidents or accidents immediately and obtain a police case number.
- (For Technical Drivers only):
- Assist with clinic preparations or unpack hampers from blood banks in the absence of support staff.

Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Minimum: Grade 9 with a valid Code C1 driver’s license and a valid PDP
- Preferred: Grade 12 and Advanced Driver Training
Experience:
- At least 3 years’ driving experience
- Proficiency in English
