Introduction
Phakisa Holdings is currently recruiting for a General Assistant in the Mining Industry, based in the Steelpoort area. This role supports daily mining operations by performing general labour tasks, maintaining worksite cleanliness, assisting technicians, and adhering to strict safety protocols to ensure operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
General Labour & Housekeeping:
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas by removing debris and ensuring a safe environment
- Assist in transporting tools, materials, and equipment to required locations
- Provide support to various operational teams as needed
Technical Assistance:
- Assist technicians, artisans, pipe fitters, and welders with daily tasks
- Help prepare work areas and ensure the availability of necessary tools and materials
- Support basic maintenance tasks under supervision
Safety & Compliance:
- Comply with all health and safety standards, including correct use of PPE
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing training
- Promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents
Equipment Support:
- Operate hand tools and assist with moving machinery or heavy materials
- Ensure tools and equipment are stored correctly and kept in good condition
- Assist with loading and unloading supplies and materials
General Support Duties:
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisors or team leaders
- Contribute to operational productivity through flexibility and teamwork
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Experience:
- Prior experience in general labour, particularly in mining, construction, or industrial sectors is an advantage
- Familiarity with mining tools and equipment is beneficial
Skills & Competencies:
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and adapt to various operational tasks
Additional Requirements:
- Must be medically fit to work in a mining environment (medical clearance required)
- Willing to work shifts, overtime, and in remote or harsh conditions
- Comfortable working in confined spaces
Remuneration:
- R28.79 per hour
- Immediate availability required
