Introduction
Phakisa Holdings is looking to appoint a Fresh Produce Packer for a position in the Steeldale area, within the fresh produce industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for packing, labelling, and displaying fresh produce efficiently and hygienically, in line with company quality and safety standards—while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort, weigh, and pre-pack fruits and vegetables according to company portioning and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the pre-pack area and ensure all equipment is properly sanitized
- Inspect produce for freshness, quality, and signs of damage prior to packing
- Accurately label packages with pricing, product details, and expiration dates
- Replenish shelves with pre-packed stock and rotate items according to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
- Assist in receiving and unpacking incoming stock deliveries
- Report any spoiled, expired, or damaged produce to the supervisor
- Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and health standards in line with HACCP guidelines
- Offer courteous assistance to customers when required
Skills & Competencies:
- High attention to detail
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills
- Familiarity with fresh produce handling and storage practices
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Good personal hygiene and understanding of food safety standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Physically fit and capable of standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Previous experience in a fresh produce environment is preferred
- Good knowledge of fruit and vegetable varieties is essential
- Basic training in food handling or hygiene is an advantage
Remuneration:
- R28.79 per hour
