Introduction
Display Wine is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join their team as a General Worker. This position plays a crucial role in supporting various departments by executing a variety of manual and operational tasks that contribute to the smooth running and productivity of the business.
The role primarily involves manual labour, operating basic tools and machinery, and ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols. A background or working knowledge in carpentry and joinery will be highly advantageous, as the role involves regular support for skilled tradespeople.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cleaning & Maintenance
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and kept in proper working condition.
- Maintain a tidy and organised workshop by sweeping, mopping, dusting, and wiping down surfaces regularly.
2. Handling, Loading & Unloading
- Move heavy boxes, pallets, and materials as required.
- Load and unload goods from delivery trucks.
- Assist in stock and inventory management to ensure correct loading of required items.
3. Assistance to Skilled Tradespeople
- Support carpenters and other tradespeople with their daily tasks.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Participate in project installations as required.
4. Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all company safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain workshop conditions in line with safety standards (e.g., sanitisation).
- Report any faults, defects, or issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Conduct basic maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure optimal function.
5. Warehouse Support
- Operate hand tools and perform general warehouse tasks.
- Carry out manual tasks such as packing and weighing products.
6. Carpentry Assistance
- Support carpenters in measuring materials accurately.
- Prepare materials through cutting, sanding, shaping, etc.
- Assemble products using appropriate techniques such as gluing or jointing.
- Assist in the fitting and installation of fixtures and structures.
7. Material and Equipment Handling
- Work with materials such as wood and aluminium.
- Operate basic machinery like sanders, saws, moulders, and hand tools in the manufacturing process.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Proficient in reading and writing English
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure
- Prior experience in assembly, manufacturing, carpentry, or joinery is preferred
- A valid driver’s license is advantageous
