Introduction

A prominent South African manufacturer and distributor of Traditional Sorghum Beer and other alcoholic beverages is seeking a Wellness Coordinator to join their Health & Safety team.


Role Purpose

The Wellness Coordinator will be instrumental in fostering a healthy, resilient, and productive workforce. This includes developing and executing wellness initiatives tailored to employee needs, with the goal of boosting productivity, reducing absenteeism, and cultivating a company-wide culture of wellbeing.


Key Responsibilities

📌 Planning

  • Develop and design comprehensive health and wellness programs.
  • Establish departmental goals aligned with medical surveillance requirements.
  • Create and maintain standardized wellness policies, procedures, and implementation calendars.

📌 Coordination

  • Identify and engage strategic wellness partners for program execution.
  • Advocate for wellness initiatives internally (with Health Team, HR, HSE, HODs, and worker leadership) and externally (Department of Health and wellness-related coalitions).
  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders.

📌 Advisory

  • Provide expert consultation on occupational health and hygiene matters.
  • Guide the strategic planning of the wellness portfolio.
  • Promote adherence to statutory health and wellness regulations.
  • Draft and manage policy documents, procedures, and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

📌 Administrative Support

  • Support staffing and budgeting for the wellness department.
  • Coordinate internal audits and performance evaluations.
  • Organize wellness-related events, meetings, and refresher training.
  • Develop tools for wellness data collection and reporting.

📌 Training

  • Design, plan, and deliver wellness-related training programs.
  • Set and manage a training calendar and content.
  • Identify and engage relevant training partners.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate training sessions as needed.

📌 Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Design and implement wellness monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Conduct regular surveys and studies related to employee health.
  • Compile and present wellness department reports.
  • Conduct disease surveillance and escalate concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national reporting standards.

  • Boost employee participation in health initiatives.
  • Oversee wellness screenings and risk assessments.
  • Promote mental health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Manage wellness budgets and optimize use of resources.
  • Align wellness efforts with ESG and sustainability targets (social pillar).

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant health or wellness field
  • Postgraduate qualification (preferred)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Occupational Health

Desirable Experience & Competencies:

  • Proven ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders in delivering wellness outcomes
  • Strong background in incident investigation and root-cause analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of OHSA, COIDA, and other relevant legislation
  • Proactive, self-driven approach to safety and wellness outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and handling confidential data
  • Advantageous certifications: SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, NOSA, HIRA, ISO 45001, HACCP, TQM
  • Experience in FMCG manufacturing preferred
  • SAP experience is an added advantage
