Trainee Accountant

Currently, we are actively seeking enthusiastic and dynamic SAICA Trainee Accountants to join our vibrant team in Hillcrest, Durban.

Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of the Trainee Accountant is to execute assigned tasks, maintaining regular communication with the Audit Supervisor to update on progress and address any challenges. This role involves ensuring that work is documented and concluded in adherence to the company’s Policies and Procedures. The Trainee reports directly to the Audit Supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generate client reports, including AFS, minutes, certificates, and management letters.
  • Aid managers in identifying significant issues.
  • Maintain professional communication with clients.
  • Execute audit tasks promptly.
  • Proactively gather reliable evidence for all audit procedures.
  • Exercise professional judgment.
  • Complete tax returns.
  • Undertake other non-audit tasks as needed.
  • Manage personal performance and learning trajectory.
  • Successfully pass all tests and exams required for qualification within the prescribed period and attempts.
  • Fulfill regular rating assessments as outlined by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  • Collaborate effectively in teams.
  • Uphold company ethics and values, acting with integrity.
  • Demonstrate clear and concise written communication.
  • Establish clear objectives and plan activities.
  • Work productively in a challenging environment.
  • Ensure due care in completing work.
  • Maintain a monthly productivity rate of 75% (i.e., 75% of time spent on billable work).

Desired Experience & Qualification:

  • Possess a Matric/Grade 12 qualification.
  • Hold a SAICA accredited degree or be in the process of completing one by the end of 2024.
  • Be registered or will be registered to pursue a SAICA accredited Accounting Degree.
  • Obtain a recognized SAICA accredited degree or anticipate completion by the end of 2024 (National Diplomas not considered).
  • Start or continue with CTA in 2024 (audit clerks to be registered for postgraduate qualifications).
  • Demonstrate a passion for accounting and auditing, displaying enthusiasm towards becoming a CA.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and own a car.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa.
  • Openness to working overtime during peak times.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office literate).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Well-presented and well-spoken.
  • Able to commence with articles on January 15, 2024.

Package & Remuneration: Salary is dependent on experience and qualification (R 11,000 – R 12,500).
