Position: Shuttle / Switcher Driver Location: New Johnsonville, TN Division: Solutions Time Type: Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY The Shuttle/Yard Driver plays a dual role. They handle travel to and from the plant site for deliveries and are accountable for the operational status of the equipment, conducting regular daily inspections. As Yard Drivers, they respond to customer needs, facilitating trailer movement and placement to aid warehouse and plant operations in material sorting and processing for shipment or storage. They ensure timely movements and maintain thorough knowledge of available equipment inventory, conducting daily inventory checks of equipment in the yard.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Shuttle/Yard Driver:

  • Maintain an orderly storage lot to maximize efficiency in serving customer needs.
  • Record trailer numbers and vehicle positions.
  • Interact daily with warehouse supervisors, adhering to safety requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with operations and warehouse personnel via cellular telephone or 2-way radio.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions as directed by loading crew, ensuring safety precautions such as wheel chock placement.
  • Follow company policies, guidelines, and quality procedures.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and minor maintenance.
  • Assist in warehouse and yard security maintenance.

Quality:

  • Ensure timely, damage-free inbound and outbound shipments.

Delivery:

  • Deliver equipment and products efficiently and promptly without damage, accompanied by proper documentation.

Inventory:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of each load for site records.

Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:

  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area and uphold warehouse security.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, corporate policies, and OSHA/MSDS Standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate forklifts and other power equipment to load, unload, move, stack, and stage products and materials.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report defects for repair.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently, following prescribed methods.
  • Maintain active Class A CDL certification.

Maintenance:

  • Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as required.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Refuel trucks as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of experience in logistics/distribution or a relevant field.
  • Valid and up-to-date Class A CDL and Health Card.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, or Professional Designations:

  • Valid and up-to-date Class A CDL and Health Card.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills.

Language Skills:

  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, verbal).

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic to intermediate level for verifying and performing duties associated with handling, storing, and distributing client products.

Other:

  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Timely task completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work independently or in a team.
  • Adaptability to change and fast-paced environments.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work outside and in a warehouse environment.
  • Clean driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years of experience in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
  • 1-2 years of driving experience.
