DRIVER (US Embassy)

Introduction: The U.S. Consulate in Cape Town is currently in search of qualified individuals for the Warehouse Driver position within the General Services Office.

Basic Function of Position: The role involves serving as both a warehouseman and driver to support consulate operations. Responsibilities include the storage, maintenance, and delivery of consulate property. The position also acts as a backup motor pool driver for passenger and/or cargo transportation. Operating a delivery truck, forklift, and passenger vehicle safely and efficiently is a key aspect. The Warehouse Driver reports to the General Services Assistant, receiving day-to-day guidance from the Warehouse Floor Manager.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Completion of Secondary School (grade 12) is mandatory.

Work Experience: Applicants should have a minimum of two years of experience in manual labor, with at least one year dedicated to operating a light truck and forklift.

Language: A good working knowledge of English for speaking, reading, and writing is essential.

Job Knowledge: Familiarity with safe lifting procedures, light truck and forklift operation, wrapping and packing for storage, maintenance checks for heavy equipment, and efficient packing techniques. Skills in using a trolley jack, stacking objects, and lifting furniture into confined spaces are also required.

Skills and Abilities: A valid Code 10 driver’s license with PDP is necessary. Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook and Word) and keyboard data entry skills for property records in ILMS, is required. The ability to lift 30 kg and perform physical labor, coupled with good interpersonal skills for interactions with vendors, contractors, and consulate staff, is expected.
