Operations Assistant

Job Overview
We’re looking for a dedicated and customer-focused individual to provide excellent in-store service, ensure effective merchandising, maintain cleanliness, and support store operations in a high-paced retail environment.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Provide professional assistance to customers by offering product advice and handling inquiries
  • Resolve customer complaints efficiently and politely

Merchandising

  • Safely and correctly merchandise bulk stock according to the store layout and planograms
  • Ensure designated areas are fully stocked and presented according to merchandising standards

Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free shopping environment
  • Ensure immediate merchandising of newly received stock
  • Maintain clear aisles and ensure shelf price labels are correct
  • Complete checklists related to your shift, including canteen and facilities upkeep

Health and Safety (OHSA Compliance)

  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols (e.g., wear safety gear)
  • Ensure safe merchandising of racking and bulk stock
  • Report any safety concerns or discrepancies to the Store Manager

Stock Control

  • Report any damaged stock in your area to the Store Manager
  • Help minimize stock loss through vigilance and adherence to procedures

Performance and Results

  • Meet productivity targets and complete tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain company standards and deliver quality service consistently
  • Follow through on assigned responsibilities and commitments

Problem Solving & Decision-Making

  • Identify and investigate problems, taking action or escalating as necessary
  • Make informed decisions aligned with company policies and procedures
  • Implement solutions effectively within set timelines

Planning & Pressure Management

  • Organize tasks based on store procedures and priorities
  • Remain calm and focused under pressure, regardless of workload

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers
  • Manage daily conflicts professionally and constructively

Communication

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully in all interactions
  • Share relevant information with the appropriate team members and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 (NQF Level 3) with at least 1 year of relevant experience, or Grade 12 with no prior experience
  • Ability to speak English and the dominant local language
  • Valid South African ID or work permit
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform accurate calculations
  • Availability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
