Position Summary

The School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Wits University is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Laboratory Assistant to join the team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a laboratory environment and a sound understanding of health and safety standards.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • At least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations
  • A valid driver’s license is advantageous

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication abilities

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Conduct laboratory tests on various equipment and materials
  • Prepare samples and specimens for analysis
  • Perform routine quality control procedures
  • Accurately record and report data
  • Interpret test results using scientific methods and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory procedures and protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation of activities and results
  • Keep the laboratory clean, orderly, and well-stocked
  • Assist with general administrative and operational tasks in the School
