Position Summary
The School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Wits University is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Laboratory Assistant to join the team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a laboratory environment and a sound understanding of health and safety standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- At least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience
- Knowledge of current health and safety regulations
- A valid driver’s license is advantageous

- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Effective communication abilities
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
- Conduct laboratory tests on various equipment and materials
- Prepare samples and specimens for analysis
- Perform routine quality control procedures
- Accurately record and report data
- Interpret test results using scientific methods and best practices
- Ensure compliance with laboratory procedures and protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation of activities and results
- Keep the laboratory clean, orderly, and well-stocked
- Assist with general administrative and operational tasks in the School
