Our client in the freight and logistics sector is seeking a qualified Import Controller – Sea/Air Freight to join their team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Organize, consolidate, review, and verify accuracy and efficiency of shipment bookings.
- Examine supplier shipment documents (Bill of Lading, packing list, invoices, etc.) for completeness and accuracy, including deposit invoices and updating foreign vendor schedules.
- Monitor, record, and communicate the status and flow of shipments into the country, ensuring timely delivery to the Distribution Center (DC) and prompt receipt of the telex release.
- Complete, submit, and verify customs clearing instructions, ensuring the accuracy of all necessary documentation, including 3rd party inspection reports if applicable.
- Cross-check customs clearing amounts for accuracy and collaborate with the freight forwarder for any necessary amendments.
- Obtain and assess monthly shipping quotes.
- Review, update, and circulate a weekly status report, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Scrutinize and verify freight forwarding invoices, coordinating with the freight forwarder for amendments if required.
- Provide airfreight quotes when necessary.
- Submit, follow up, and monitor claims to the freight forwarder for en route losses/damages.
- Prepare and pursue reimbursement of quality claims and deposit reimbursement on the final payment invoice.
- File all import documentation to meet SARS requirements.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of schedules.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in an imports environment, preferably in sea and airfreight imports within the clothing retail industry.
- Proficient knowledge of incoterms.
- Finance diploma or higher (freight forwarding qualification would be advantageous).
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
