Position Overview: General Assistant
We are seeking a General Assistant to join our team at Newmarket Park. In this customer-facing role, you’ll help create a welcoming and enjoyable shopping experience by assisting customers, maintaining store presentation, and handling basic transactions. If you’re friendly, proactive, and service-oriented, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in locating products and offer accurate product information
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues professionally
- Greet shoppers warmly and maintain a helpful, positive attitude
- Inform customers about promotions and special offers
- Process transactions, including cash and card payments, returns, and refunds
- Receive and unpack deliveries, manage stock levels, and restock shelves
- Ensure products are neatly displayed and readily available
- Perform routine cleaning in store areas (e.g., storeroom, kitchen)
- Dispose of waste appropriately, including storeroom trash
- Assist with regular stock takes
- Adhere to all health, safety, and emergency procedures
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Fluent in English
- Must reside within 25 km of Alberton
- Clear criminal record
Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous but Not Essential):
- South African citizenship
- Previous experience in a customer service or retail team member role
