Position Overview
A vacancy has arisen for the role of Driver – Light Motor Vehicle, based in Pietermaritzburg. This role is focused on driving light motor vehicles (under 3000kg GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT) to facilitate the collection and delivery of goods, documents, or people across various locations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining and cleaning the vehicle as well as performing routine vehicle checks.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist and supervise the loading of the delivery vehicle.
- Verify that all loaded goods match the Delivery Notes, signing off to confirm acceptance of the load.
- Confirm goods upon delivery with the customer against the Delivery Note, ensuring the customer signs as Proof of Delivery (POD). Report any shortages and have them signed off by the customer.
- Collect payments for COD (Cash on Delivery) orders as required.
- Ensure goods are delivered in clean, saleable condition, with attention to packaging and overall presentation.
- Return all PODs and COD payments to the Depot, Stores, or Dispatch Supervisor upon returning to the Warehouse.
- Collect and return items listed on Goods Return Vouchers (GRVs) when instructed.
- Complete daily and weekly vehicle checks as outlined in the company’s Vehicle Checklist, reporting any issues before departure.
- Maintain the vehicle in a clean, roadworthy condition, promptly reporting any defects to the relevant supervisor.
- Keep an accurate delivery schedule, noting arrival and departure times and obtaining customer sign-off.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
- Educational Requirement: Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (Essential)
- License: Valid Code 10 (Code B) Driver’s License (Essential)
- Experience: At least 2 years as a delivery assistant or driver (Essential)
