Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a bus or vehicle in compliance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- Conduct vehicle condition checks before service, including safety walk-around inspections (pre-trip and post-trip).
- Complete trip logs, noting the start and end kilometers per trip or route.
- Drive the allocated vehicle safely, legally, and professionally.
- Adhere to set timetables, ensuring timely departures and arrivals.
- Observe road rules within bus depots, bus stations, public roads, and during abnormal conditions.
- Wear prescribed uniforms at all times while on duty.
- Communicate professionally with customers.
- Provide a courteous and friendly service to all stakeholders.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and tidiness before starting a route or trip.
- Report vehicles or buses that are not roadworthy.
- Report any vehicle or equipment defects to the Operations Controller as soon as possible and upon trip/route completion.
- Timely reporting of expiring vehicle licenses and Certificates of Fitness (COF).
- Perform lawful and reasonable duties as required by OHS and SHEQ.
- Understand and follow emergency and evacuation plans and procedures.
- Comprehend University Health & Safety Policy and Emergency Fire Procedures.
- Identify and report safety hazards and risks to the operations manager immediately.
- Attend safety and compliance meetings.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of active passenger driving experience on buses.
- Valid Driver’s License Code EC1 (0,4) or EC.
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
