Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Fitter will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and operational efficiency of mechanical plants, equipment, towers, and water pump stations, ensuring compliance with OHASA and SANS codes of practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical equipment, including pumps, level controls, PRVs (pressure-reducing valves), valves, and auxiliaries.
- Execute planned maintenance according to Johannesburg Water’s maintenance schedules and SOPs.
- Provide standby support and respond to emergency callouts, reporting back to the Telemetry Control Room.
- Conduct monthly toolbox checks to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Report any irregular maintenance issues to the Operations Manager.
- Assist in planning and scheduling maintenance tasks as directed by the Supervisor.
- Investigate and enhance pump station and reservoir performance.
- Ensure all work orders, check sheets, and overtime sheets are completed accurately.
- Maintain and submit vehicle inspection sheets, logbooks, and petrol slips in accordance with Johannesburg Water’s vehicle policy.
- Supervise and manage subordinates effectively.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 or N1 (NQF Level 2)
- Fitter Trade Test Certificate or appropriate Learnership (NQF Level 4)
- Minimum 3 years of experience with pumps, valves, hydraulic level controls, and PRVs
- Basic supervisory experience
- Valid Code EB driver’s license
