Position: Picker
Reporting to: Regional Distribution Manager

Job Specification:

Key Responsibilities:

Stock Picking:

  • Utilize a printed picking sheet to gather stock from authorized locations, securely place items on a pallet, and transport to the designated cage.
  • Ensure accuracy by picking the correct material code, quantity, and batch number.
  • Report any stock anomalies to the line manager.
  • Use slip sheets to protect stock on pallets from damage.

Maintaining a Clean Workplace:

  • Pick stock from one pallet at a time.
  • Clean up any dust or waste caused by pallet jack operations immediately.
  • Dispose of waste in the designated bins.
  • Handle bags, cases, and other products carefully to avoid damage.
  • Report any product damages to the Inventory team promptly.
  • Operate the pallet jack safely at all times.

Safe Operation:

  • Be cautious at blind corners and mindful of pedestrians and forklifts.
  • Operate the pallet jack in a manner that minimizes damage to products and property.
  • Report any pallet jack accidents or damages to the supervisor immediately.
  • Adhere to MARSH and SHEQ policies and procedures.

Stock Control and Warehouse Support:

  • Assist the inventory team with daily cycle counts.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for picking.
  • Focus on picking for international, long-haul, and wholesale orders.
  • Participate in physical stock counts as needed and directed by the line manager.
  • Prepare the warehouse for quarterly stock takes.
  • Comply with company rules, regulations, and operational instructions.
  • Be available for overtime work as required.

Knowledge Required:

  • Experience with Vendor Management Inventory (VMI) for picking, packing, and counting.
  • Familiarity with wall-to-wall stock counts in FMCG industries.
  • Experience in bulk picking and long-haul picking is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of export cargo (pick and pack) is beneficial.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric), Grade 12 – mandatory.
  • Passed Grade 12 Mathematics.
  • Post-matric qualifications in warehousing, inventory, or supply chain are advantageous.
