Introduction
Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
The Van Assistant plays a key role in supporting the driver with the timely, cost-efficient, and safe delivery of all dispatched goods. This includes assisting with loading and unloading items from the vehicle and ensuring deliveries are handled professionally and according to company standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the driver in performing a full safety and pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and assigned equipment
- Unload goods at the customer’s location and place them in the designated receiving area
- Load return items securely to prevent damage during transportation
- Handle all products and equipment properly, in accordance with safety procedures
- Confirm that the correct items and quantities are delivered to the correct customer
- Guide the driver when reversing or parking in designated off-loading zones
- Assist the driver in conducting a full post-trip vehicle inspection and ensure proper documentation of any returned goods
- Unload returned equipment and pallets at the debriefing station
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the delivery vehicle
Requirements & Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position
- Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying medium to heavy items
- Basic literacy and good communication skills
- Familiar with workplace health and safety practices
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to handle customer interactions in a professional manner
