Job Summary
This role is responsible for processing teller transactions accurately and efficiently, ensuring that customers are assisted promptly and courteously. This role has compensation and benefit implications in Kenya, Tanzania (NBC), and Mozambique. Please contact the Reward team for further details.
Key Responsibilities
Cash and Transaction Processing:
- Manage and balance the cash float at your teller station throughout the day.
- Dispense and receive cash, cheques, traveller’s cheques, drafts, and other financial instruments to customers.
- Verify customer identification and account details when processing cheques and other transactions.
- Be alert to fraudulent or suspicious activities and report concerns to the team leader or branch manager.
- Adhere to policies when handling cash, cheques, IDs, and other sensitive documents to prevent fraud.
- Refer transactions exceeding teller limits to a designated official for authorization.
- Capture all transactions accurately in the banking system and ensure proper authorization before finalizing.
- Use cash counting equipment to avoid errors, and reconcile your cash at the beginning and end of each day.
- Prepare reconciliation reports for audits and management reviews.
- Process journals to recover charges for manual transactions and ensure adherence to SARB requirements.
Customer Service:
- Provide advice to customers on cash and transaction processes to ensure a smooth experience.
- Exhaust all avenues to resolve customer inquiries before escalating to other departments.
- Keep customers informed on the progress of their inquiries and explain banking procedures.
- Assist customers in completing transaction documents accurately.
- Ensure a friendly, professional, and efficient interaction with customers.
- Maintain a neat and tidy workstation and ensure compliance with the bank’s Corporate Image and Wear policies.
- Proactively manage workspace supplies and read up on pricing documents to offer clients better solutions.
- Guide customers on digital and self-help channels for transactions and educate them on alternative options for transacting.
Sales and Cross-Selling:
- Identify and action sales leads from teller prompts and cross-selling opportunities.
- Provide basic campaign information to clients and direct them to Sales Consultants for more details.
- Assist with achieving branch sales targets by identifying product needs and offering solutions.
- Capture sales leads and follow up with Sales Consultants to ensure client engagement.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Open and close the branch safe in accordance with bank procedures.
- Conduct cash counts and visual checks as assigned by the line manager.
- Maintain proper transaction records and ensure they are readily available for control purposes.
- Verify that all information is accurate before processing transactions and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Adhere to cash management procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Report suspicious transactions as per Money Laundering Control frameworks.
- Maintain and complete applicable registers, including Teller and Key registers.
- Follow security procedures, especially in case of robbery, and keep workstations locked when unattended.
- Adhere to all end-of-day procedures and branch mandates when processing and authorizing transactions.
- Stay up-to-date with policies, procedures, and equipment testing related to teller duties.
Education:
- Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies (Required).
