Internal and External Position: Position: Storeman Position Title: Storeman Reporting To: Warehouse Supervisor Reporting Relationship: This position currently has no direct reports.
Primary Purpose of Role: The Storeman is responsible for verifying and maintaining records of incoming and outgoing shipments. They prepare items for shipment by comparing, identifying information, counting, weighing, or measuring items against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Communication with suppliers and forwarders is a regular part of the role to track and trace goods.
Primary Objectives:
- Receive product deliveries, ensuring order and invoice accuracy.
- Move shipments into appropriate locations for stocking, maintaining high standards of housekeeping.
- Establish and maintain goods receiving and dispatching areas.
- Manage garbage and recycling dumpsters for pick-up on designated days.
- Determine shipment methods using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Ensure proper labeling of packed cartons/crates with shipping information.
- Pack goods according to company standards.
- Unpack and inspect incoming shipments, rejecting damaged items, recording shortages, and corresponding with shippers to rectify issues.
- Route items to relevant departments.
- Inspect outgoing shipments to meet company and forwarders’ specifications.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Operate forklift or use a hand truck to move shipments.
Formal Education/Training:
- Grade 12
- Exposure to Railway Rolling stock is advantageous.
- 5 to 10 years of warehouse experience.
- Oracle or SAP working experience (MM module).
Essential Work Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Good technical ability.
- PC literacy.
- Exposure to commercial matters is desirable.
- Customer service-oriented.
- Good MS Office skills.
