Primary Purpose of the Role
To professionally manage all aspects of patient admissions and discharges, ensuring a smooth process while mitigating operational and financial risks to the organization and exceeding client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process admissions, including pre-admissions and bookings, in line with standard procedures.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks by adhering to established policies and guidelines.
- Execute an efficient discharge process as outlined in the Patient Administration Manual.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
Educational Requirements
- Essential: Grade 12 or equivalent
- Preferred: None
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: No prior experience required
- Preferred: Experience in reception administration and/or private healthcare facility experience
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Debtpack Enquiry application (checking outstanding amounts for blacklisted patients)
- Admission, bed management, and discharge processes
- Medical terminology and anatomy basics
- Hospital switchboard systems
- Patient administration policies and procedures (e.g., confidentiality, cash handling, bed overrides)
- AS400 system for patient administration
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- ICD and CPT coding knowledge
- Understanding of medical aid schemes and the private healthcare environment
- Workmen’s Compensation Act (WCA) policies and procedures
- Emergency and major incident protocols (e.g., fire, floods, robbery)
- Identifying and managing financial risks (e.g., blacklisted patients, handling of patient valuables)
