Role Overview

Support the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of financial information to aid criminal investigations, asset recovery, and legal proceedings under supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, interpret, summarize, and present financial data, ensuring accuracy and clarity in documentation under guidance.
  • Assist in identifying patterns and anomalies in financial transactions to support the detection of potential fraud or criminal activities.
  • Work collaboratively with senior team members to communicate key findings and insights in relevant forums, aiding effective decision-making.
  • Assess the relevance and completeness of financial information or evidence, identifying any gaps under guidance.
  • Perform financial calculations, including income and loss analysis, transaction summaries, fund tracing, asset tracking, and present value computations.
  • Utilize financial software, databases, and visualization tools such as charts and graphs to present findings.
  • Conduct forensic analysis of financial data to support law enforcement investigations, preparing reports, trend analyses, and recommendations in line with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure analytical work meets established quality standards under supervision.
  • Assist in transferring intelligence and evidence to relevant authorities under guidance.
  • Support legal proceedings, including testifying in court for less complex forensic cases, and prepare visual aids to support findings.
  • Manage personal deliverables with limited supervision while maintaining effective collaboration with team members.
  • Adhere to set action plans and timelines to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies and training materials for knowledge sharing and benchmarking.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Forensic Accounting, or BCompt.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in forensic accounting.
  • Preferable experience in one or more of the following fields:
    • Fraud risk assessment, internal investigations, anti-money laundering compliance, data analysis, internal auditing, and financial crime detection.
    • Forensic accounting, litigation support, forensic investigations, and legal collaboration in financial crime cases.
    • Financial services (banking, investment, insurance).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of accounting and auditing standards to support financial investigations.
  • Proficiency in investigative techniques for gathering critical information.
  • Familiarity with forensic investigation methodologies across various contexts.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and the Law of Evidence.
  • Understanding of public sector financial regulations (PFMA, MFMA, Treasury Regulations, and directives) is an advantage.
  • Experience in data analysis tools, financial software, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required.
  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML) training is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective reporting and presentation capabilities.
