Group Financial Accountant – Meyersdal, Alberton

Phakisa Holdings is seeking a Group Financial Accountant to join our team in Meyersdal, Alberton.


Key Responsibilities

Cashbook Management:

  • Supervise cashbook clerks, oversee daily tasks, and manage leave scheduling.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and development planning for clerical staff.
  • Review and approve monthly cashbook reconciliations.
  • Manage the payment process, ensuring accuracy, validity, and proper authorization before escalation.
  • Oversee the processing and reconciliation of third-party payments from payroll.
  • Monitor daily cash flow forecasts and recommend necessary investments or withdrawals.
  • Track approved payments against bank statements.
  • Ensure correct VAT treatment on EFT invoices with appropriate controls in place.
  • Maintain and update bank accounts on FNB Online and Unit4 Masterfile.
  • Recommend process improvements for financial controls and efficiency.

Creditors Management:

  • Supervise creditors clerks, delegate tasks, and oversee leave management.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for clerical staff.
  • Review creditor reconciliations, ensuring thorough checks for each supplier.
  • Investigate unprocessed invoices and credit notes, coordinating resolutions with procurement and divisional accountants.
  • Approve payment proposals, including supplier maintenance updates.
  • Analyze and report on aged creditors and inactive suppliers, recommending closures.
  • Manage and track the B-BBEE status of suppliers, ensuring compliance updates in ERP systems.
  • Identify and implement improvements in the creditors department’s processes and controls.

General Finance:

  • Enhance financial controls, ERP, and payroll systems for improved efficiency.
  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Review and summarize balance sheet reconciliations prepared by divisional accountants.
  • Maintain corporate division’s asset registers, including capitalizations and disposals.
  • Oversee year-end financial procedures to ensure smooth audits.
  • Assist in preparing and managing annual B-BBEE audits and compliance reports.
  • Process and reconcile monthly payroll files in the ERP system.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, financial reporting, and VAT201 submissions.
  • Monitor corporate division expenses and allocate management fees across divisions.

General & Operational Support:

  • Provide financial insights and analytical support to operations teams.
  • Conduct data analytics for process efficiency and fraud detection.
  • Perform internal audits and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Design and implement reporting tools to improve financial and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure data accuracy and meaningful financial reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: BCom Honours (SAIPA registered) or CA(SA) (SAICA registered).
  • Experience:
    • Completed Articles at an accredited institution.
    • 3+ years of managerial experience.
    • 3+ years post-articles experience, preferably in the service industry.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in IFRS, financial accounting, and auditing standards.
    • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
    • Advanced query, report writing, and data presentation capabilities.
    • Strong project planning and coordination skills.
