Job Description
- Count and package seeds
- Soak, wash, and dry seedling trays
- Prepare seedling mix for tray filling
- Fill trays with seedling mix
- Sow seeds according to the sowing list
- Move seedling trays from the germination room to the seedling house after 72 hours and arrange them
- Prepare seedling mix for planting pots
- Fill planting pots with seedling mix
- Transport filled pots and arrange them in the greenhouses
- Connect drippers to the pots
- Transfer seedlings from the seedling house to the greenhouses and fields
- Create planting holes in the field
- Transplant seedlings
- Prepare ropes for trellising and attach them to cables and plants
- Identify flowers at the correct stage on female plants and perform emasculation as per the breeder’s crossing book
- Carry out pollination as instructed in the crossing book
- Label and mark crossed flowers appropriately
Qualifications:
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) is essential
- Experience in the agricultural industry is an advantage
Physical Demands:
- Regularly sit and use hands for fine motor skills and repetitive tasks
- Occasionally required to stand and walk
- Must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds
- Frequent communication and listening required
- Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustments
- Must work outdoors in varying weather conditions
