Location: Silvertondale, Pretoria
Reports to: Project Manager – RRM
Purpose of the Role:
The General Worker will support Routine Road Maintenance (RRM) operations along the Bakwena N1N4 Toll Highway, including the main roadway, medians, and surrounding reserve areas.
Minimum Requirements & Competencies:
- Minimum Grade 10 qualification
- Relevant technical certification (advantageous)
- Experience in general labour, cleaning, and site housekeeping
- Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and completion of in-house training
- Valid, unendorsed Code 08 driver’s license (light motor vehicle)
- Minimum one year of related work experience
- Good communication skills in English (verbal and written)
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Physically fit and able to handle heavy-duty tasks
- Competent in operating equipment such as brush cutters, chainsaws, etc.
- Ability to work under various weather conditions and travel along the ±380km route
- Willingness to work overtime when required
- Must be prepared to travel and occasionally stay outside of Pretoria, as needed
- Able to work in an outdoor, roadside environment as well as in-store settings
Key Responsibilities:
All responsibilities are carried out in compliance with the Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concession Contract, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS), and applicable company policies:
- Set up traffic accommodation to protect motorists and ensure site safety during roadworks
- Install and remove damaged road studs
- Perform basic road surface repairs, including pothole filling
- Conduct grass cutting, mowing, and fence clearing
- Clean and clear road surfaces and reserves of debris and obstructions
- Cut and remove trees as needed
- Repair and maintain road signage
- Dig holes for road furniture and signage posts
- Clean and maintain company vehicles and equipment
- Move and organize stock and equipment in the store
- Adhere to safe working procedures and OHS regulations
