Driver (SANBS)

Introduction

A position has become available for a Driver responsible for the timely, safe, and cost-effective transport of goods and passengers.


Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Trip Checks

  • Conduct vehicle inspections using the standard checklist and report issues to the Dispatch Controller or relevant Inventory Supervisor.
  • Receive and acknowledge Trip Instruction Sheets.
  • Collect and wear a name tag.
  • Load products as per Delivery Sheet, ensuring blood products are handled with care.
  • Provide delivery copies to the Dispatch Controller.
  • Record odometer readings and complete the vehicle log book.
  • Check fuel levels and refuel if necessary using the assigned fuel card, verifying odometer readings on the fuel slip.

2. Goods Transportation

  • Complete and update the Trip Sheet.
  • Adhere to scheduled delivery timelines and report deviations.
  • Drive in compliance with SANBS policies and the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Collect and deliver goods while ensuring recipient signs delivery documents.
  • Represent SANBS professionally during interactions.
  • Conduct post-trip vehicle inspections and hand over trip documentation and keys.
  • Ensure all trips are authorized and recorded in the Log Book.

3. Passenger Transportation (Excludes Technical Drivers in Zones)

  • Confirm trip details with the Dispatch Controller and collect a Transport Request Form.
  • Collect petty cash for airport pickups if needed.
  • Greet international passengers with SANBS Welcome signage.
  • Escort unfamiliar passengers to the appropriate venue.
  • Request completion of a Customer Service Assessment Form.
  • Ensure only authorized passengers are transported.
  • Record trip details in the Log Book.

4. Administrative & Support Duties

  • Handle ad hoc tasks and incoming calls professionally.
  • Keep company vehicles clean and report incidents within an hour to the Dispatch Controller and police, obtaining a case number.
  • (Technical Drivers only) Assist with clinic preparation and unpacking hampers in the absence of the General Assistant.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 9, Code C1 driver’s license with PDP.
  • Preferred: Grade 12, Advanced Driving Course.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience.
  • Skills: Fluent in English with excellent driving and customer service abilities.
