📆 Experience Required: 5+ years of long-distance driving
👔 Professionalism Required: Well-presented with excellent driving skills
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Trip Inspection
- Conduct thorough coach and trailer inspections as per Intercape’s checklist
- Verify essential travel documents (permits, insurance, fuel cards, etc.)
- Ensure proper luggage tagging and tracking
- Prepare the passenger manifest and validate operational licenses
Driving Duties
- Adhere to K53 driving standards and national traffic laws
- Follow Intercape’s safety and speed regulations
- Ensure scheduled stops are made punctually
- Apply defensive driving techniques and ensure passenger comfort
- Conduct post-driver K53 vehicle checks after each shift
Luggage Handling
- Load luggage safely and securely
- Enforce luggage restrictions (no flammable, illegal, or perishable items)
- Manage excess luggage procedures and ensure accurate documentation
- Maintain passenger luggage records throughout the journey
Passenger Service & Etiquette
- Assist passengers during boarding and departure
- Provide special care for elderly, disabled, and unaccompanied minors
- Ensure cross-border passengers have valid passports/visas
- Offer route guidance, emergency support, and general assistance
- Handle customer complaints professionally and escalate when necessary\
On-Route Responsibilities
- Secure cash and operational equipment
- Report passenger concerns, technical issues, and emergencies to Central Ops
- Assist with food orders at refreshment stops when no cabin attendant is available
Administrative Duties
- Validate boarding passes and passenger tickets
- Maintain accurate luggage control and manifest records
- Ensure proper handling of excess luggage fees and onboard sales
- Submit all relevant trip documentation at the end of the journey
Parcel Management
- Oversee parcel loading and offloading
- Ensure waybills are attached to all parcels
- Prevent unauthorized parcel transportation
- Coordinate parcel transfers in case of breakdowns
Breakdowns & Emergency Situations
- Conduct safety assessments and passenger updates
- Assist passengers in finding alternative transport when necessary
- Perform basic vehicle repairs if possible
- Ensure a safe and orderly transfer of passengers to replacement coaches
Safety & Hygiene
- Familiarize yourself with emergency equipment locations
- Ensure passenger seatbelt compliance
- Respond to medical emergencies professionally
- Keep the coach clean and well-maintained throughout the journey
- Dispose of waste responsibly at designated stops
Minimum Requirements
✔ Education: Minimum Grade 10 (Standard 8)
✔ Experience: 3+ years of long-distance driving on South African roads
✔ License: Valid EC (Code 14) or EC1 04 (Code 11) License
✔ PrDP: Valid Professional Driving Permit (within 3 months)
✔ No serious driving offences or outstanding fines
✔ Clear Nexis Lexis report
✔ Own cellphone & reliable transport
✔ Bilingual: Fluent in English and one additional language
✔ Reside within a 45km radius of the depot
