Introduction
Our client, a reputable manufacturer of catering and baking equipment, is seeking a reliable and experienced Driver to join their team in Bellville South, Cape Town. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring timely and safe delivery of equipment and goods, while maintaining professionalism and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow delivery instructions and navigate routes using maps or GPS.
- Collect and verify products for delivery; ensure accurate loading and unloading.
- Assist in the safe loading and offloading of equipment and spare parts.
- Deliver goods to customers while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
- Accurately record deliveries and maintain delivery documentation.
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any defects or damage.
- Refuel, clean, and maintain vehicles in roadworthy condition; sign off on daily inspection sheets.
- Report any road incidents or traffic violations; strictly adhere to traffic laws (no speeding or reckless driving).
- Inspect and report on the condition of trucks, bakkies, and forklifts.
- Follow company procedures in the event of an accident or mechanical issue.
- Maintain logs of working hours, deliveries, and vehicle usage.
- Plan routes efficiently; communicate any necessary route deviations due to traffic or road issues.
- Ensure timely delivery and safe handling of equipment to prevent damage during transport and installation.
- Rig equipment securely and safely to protect team members and client personnel.
- Always wear full company uniform and PPE (personal protective equipment).
- Load equipment safely using tools such as forklifts, cranes, and pallet jacks.
- Ensure all delivery documents are correctly issued, signed by the customer, and verified by security before departing.
- Participate in monthly stocktakes, including Saturdays as required by the Dispatch Manager.
- Assist on-site with unpacking, setup, basic connections, testing, and cleaning of delivered equipment.
- Remove protective coatings and ensure all equipment is clean, complete, and operational.
- Support warehouse operations by helping with packing, organizing, stocktaking, and general housekeeping.
- Undertake long-distance deliveries and assist with on-site equipment installations across provinces.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License with PDP
- Valid forklift and crane license
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Own reliable transport to and from work
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols
