Intercape is currently recruiting Code 14 Drivers to transport passengers across all nine provinces of South Africa, as well as cross-border routes to Botswana, Maputo, and Windhoek.
The ideal candidate will have:

Duties & Responsibilities
Pre-Trip Inspection
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections following the Intercape Pre, En-Route & Post-Trip Checklist (Coach & Trailer).
- Verify and sign off the Africa Fines Checklist (for Africa departures).
- Check and confirm essential documents and equipment, including:
- Luggage stickers & control sheet
- Operating licenses & cross-border permits
- Diesel card & insurance documents
- Trailer locks & keys
Driving Responsibilities
- Ensure the coach is not overloaded and adhere to K53 driving standards.
- Conduct a K53 safety inspection after every driver change.
- Apply defensive and economic driving techniques.
- Follow Intercape’s speed limits and caution zones.
- Maintain rest periods according to company policy (maximum 4-hour driving shifts).
Luggage Handling
- Load luggage safely and ensure it is clearly marked with an Intercape sticker.
- Enforce baggage restrictions (e.g., no flammable, dangerous, or illegal items).
- Manage excess luggage fees and records.
- Perform luggage checks and secure baggage areas at refreshment stops.
Passenger Care & Etiquette
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, especially elderly or disabled individuals.
- Ensure minors traveling alone meet legal requirements and carry proper documentation.
- Verify that cross-border passengers have valid passports/visas.
- Handle customer queries and complaints professionally.
- Provide route information and emergency assistance when necessary.
En-Route Duties
- Safeguard cash, diesel cards, and operational equipment.
- Report passenger complaints, equipment issues, or emergencies to Central Ops.
- Assist in ordering food for Cabin Crew when required.
Onboard Administration
- Validate passenger tickets and boarding passes.
- Issue correct change for OBS and excess luggage payments.
- Conduct headcounts at every major stop and refreshment break.
- Ensure all trip documentation is completed and submitted after each journey.
Parcel Handling
- Work with parcel consultants to ensure correct handling and documentation.
- Verify and sign off all parcel waybills.
- Transfer parcels to replacement vehicles in case of a breakdown.
Breakdowns & Emergency Procedures
- Communicate with passengers and Central Ops about delays or issues.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Assist passengers in contacting relatives at destination stops if needed.
- Never pass a broken-down Intercape coach—always stop to assist.
Safety & Hygiene
- Memorize emergency equipment locations before each trip.
- Regularly play safety briefings for passengers.
- Maintain cabin cleanliness and dispose of trash at designated stops.
- Ensure onboard restroom facilities remain clean and stocked.
System Management & Compliance
- Utilize company systems for record-keeping and daily tasks.
- Maintain accurate tracking reports for fuel usage, stock orders, and trip performance.
- Identify and report staff training needs related to Intercape systems.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Grade 10 (Standard 8)
- 3+ years of long-distance driving experience on South African roads
Job-Specific Requirements
- Valid EC (Code 14) or EC1 04 (Code 11) License
- Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) – minimum 3 months
- Clear driving record with no serious accidents
- No outstanding traffic fines
- Own cellphone and reliable transport
- Reside within 45 km of the depot
- Bilingual (Mother tongue + English)

Additional Responsibilities
Drivers may be required to perform other operational tasks as needed, based on their qualifications and capabilities.
