Introduction
Purpose: To ensure accurate accounting of taxes according to applicable laws and regulations. This includes timely reconciliation of withholding tax, VAT control accounts, and imported services VAT for tax return filings by the specified deadlines. Additionally, it involves precise and timely preparation of creditor reconciliations, bank reconciliations, petty cash management, and processing payments to authorized vendors and beneficiaries in line with Letšeng’s financial policies, procedures, and controls.
Main Outputs & Responsibilities:
- Reconcile supplier statements with the General Ledger to ensure accurate amounts payable.
- Follow up on outstanding reconciled items and missing invoices.
- Collaborate with the mine or suppliers to resolve invoicing discrepancies.
- Verify supplier details, obtain management accountant approval, and enter data into the financial system.
- Receive approved supplier invoices from Letšeng Diamond Mine.
- Reconcile all bank statements with the Cash book, identify possible mis-postings, and make necessary corrections.
- Follow up on Maseru office requisitions and outstanding orders, advising procurement to close unused orders.
- Receive invoices with budget allocations and review them for accuracy and system compliance.
- Liaise with mine budget controllers for necessary changes in allocations and facilitate required email correspondence to formalize correct allocations.
- Verify the applicability of VAT charges and coordinate with mine budget controllers and/or suppliers to resolve issues related to export documentation, petty cash maintenance, and other financial administrative functions.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Degree in Accounting or a relevant qualification.
- 3-5 years of relevant accounting/auditing experience in a medium to large enterprise.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience using Business Online for EFT and Sage Accpac.
- Light Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
Required Competencies, Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, regulations, and legislation.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and packages, with the ability to prioritize tasks according to their importance or urgency.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation related to VAT and withholding tax.
- Effective time management skills to ensure qualitative outcomes, along with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
