Introduction: We are presently seeking a National Accountant to join our dynamic team.
Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to provide accounting services to the organization, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and utilization of all financial resources. The primary goal is to support the organization’s mission of constructing and renovating houses to provide families with decent living conditions in communities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Accounting Management:
- Support the Finance Manager in developing, documenting, implementing, and monitoring financial transactions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct reconciliations of balance sheets and Profit and Loss accounts.
- Internal Control Implementation:
- Ensure adherence to internal control processes in all transactions to promote transparency and accountability.
- Financial and Statistical Reporting:
- Oversee the production and storage of financial reports and data.
- Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting:
- Participate in annual planning and budgeting processes.
- Monitor expenditure against budget through variance analysis and periodic forecasts.
- Input budget and forecasts into the financial management system.
- Payroll Administration:
- Assist in payroll preparation and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions to the government.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns and other tax-related documents.
- Loan Tracking System and Reconciliations:
- Supervise data integrity in the Loan Tracking System and financial ledger.
- Bookkeeping and Disbursement:
- Supervise accurate maintenance of bank and petty cash accounts.
- Ensure proper authorization and documentation for disbursements.
- Post journals into the financial management system.
- Month and Quarter-End Processes:
- Conduct month-end and quarterly-end close processes.
- Prepare financial statements and assist in year-end audit preparations.
- Procurement:
- Advise on contractual terms and conditions.
- Coordinate bid evaluation processes.
- Maintain transparent procurement records.
- HR Support:
- Perform ad hoc HR duties as assigned.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of accounting experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge of NGO regulations and donor-funded projects.
- Proficiency in accounting theory, financial analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with taxation and accounting software.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills in English and the national language.
- Ability to train and support staff in accounting matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Commerce, or Business Administration.
- Professional accounting qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA).
